2014 NESA World Explorers Video

Two years ago on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout award, NESA began a program of selecting young Eagle Scouts who aspire to be explorers and field scientists. First, Alex Overman was selected as the Eagle Scout Argonaut and went to the Black Sea with Dr. Bob Ballard’s research ship Nautilus. Then last summer, NESA selected an Eagle Scout future astronomer, Tristan Bullard, to go to the mirror casting event for the Giant Magellan telescope in Arizona, and CB Wren went to the Caribbean aboard the Nautilus with Dr. Ballard as the second Eagle Scout Argonaut.

Two months ago NESA selected Eagle Scout and future scientist Alex Houston as the Antarctic Sustainability Eagle Scout. Alex went to Antarctica with noted British explorer Sir Robert Swan.

We have just finished the selection process for the first Eagle Scout Biologist, and Larry Gumina of the Monmouth Council, will be going to Ecuador this summer to a research station in the Amazon jungle. Also this summer, another Eagle Scout will go to sea with Dr. Bob Ballard. Eagle Scout Jacob Fisk of the National Capital Area Council will spend three weeks aboard the Nautilus as the NESA Nautilus Sea Scout, a new name for a longer experience.

Enjoy this video about the life changing experiences these Eagle Scouts have earned in pursuit of their dreams.
