Scout Spirit Alive and Well: Eagle Scouts Flock to Gavin B’s Eagle Court of Honor - The National Eagle Scout Association

(TAYLOR, MICHIGAN) Troop 846 recently celebrated their latest Eagle Scout, Gavin B with 19 Eagle Scouts participating.  The Court of Honor was highlighted by members of Mishigami Lodge #29 performing a Four Winds Ceremony, and Eagle Scout Josh Davis performed the Eagle Dance to the crowd’s delight. Don Shepard, Scout Executive of the Michigan Crossroads Council, was on hand to present Gavin with his Eagle Certificate and Card.

There were many tributes; among them from Michael Jedinak, NESA Chair for the Great Lakes Division of the Eagle Scout Alumni of Michigan NESA Chapter, who presented a NESA Lifetime membership given on behalf of Galvin’s parents and grandparents. David Oakley presented a hand-carved Eagle Plaque. Jeff Campbell gave a unique laser-engraved plaque showing Gavin’s achievements in Scouting to date, including every merit badge, rank, leadership position, and summer camps he attended.

Ed Basar, Camp Director of Director of the Trail to Eagle Provisional Camp at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch gave an inspiring speech on “how the road never ends in Scouting when you become an Eagle Scout”. Basar  also welcomed Gavin to the Trail to Eagle Staff. Gavin will be a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster this summer. John McGill (Not Pictured) and Dennis Schlemmer presented Gavin with a citation from the Sons of Union Soldiers, Sgt. John S. Cosbey Camp No. 427 post. Michael Sulgrove, a retired Scout Executive, instructed every Eagle Scout in the crowd to join Gavin by repeating the Eagle Charge. The Nineteen Eagle Scouts stood from their seats to join the recitation with Gavin.

Gavin thanked everyone in attendance and presented three Eagle Mentor pins to his Scoutmaster, Beth Paynter (Not Pictured), Jeff Campbell, his project adviser, and his sister Paige Bottorff (Not Pictured). Gavin also presented each scout from his troop with a special “I Promise to Become an Eagle Scout” patch and pin to audience applause.

The ceremony ended with words of wisdom from Beth Payter. The evening event was held at the Dauch Scout Center in Detroit, Michigan.
