How do Eagle Scouts Pay it Forward?

Last month, I was working on a three-piece series about how the key three in my local council ( Golden Gate Area Council) are all Eagle Scouts. In preparing the story about our council’s Scout Executive, Mike Hale (1976), one of his quotes jumped off the page at me. Scout Executive Hale was asked how an Eagle Scout, in regards to their Scouting experience, can pay it forward, and he said:

“It doesn’t have to be a massive commitment. Just agreeing to do one thing, like participate in an Eagle board, drive to camp, or wear an Eagle Scout pin are enough if we all do it.”

This quote got me thinking about what is the “one thing” an Eagle Scout could do to pay it forward. I want to hear from you. What is the one thing you do to pay it forward as an Eagle? In association with Pay It Forward Day, Thursday, April 28th, 2023, I challenge you to share on social media what you are doing to pay it forward.

In the weeks leading up to Pay It Forward day, take to social media, and share with NESA (you can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) how you pay it forward as an Eagle Scout in your everyday life. Then on April 28th, share photos and videos of you paying it forward. Be sure to use #NESAPayItForward on your social media posts, and tag us when you do.

In the weeks after Pay It Forward Day, we will share a story on nesa.org about how you have all paid it forward.

In taking Scout Executive Hale’s lead, here are some ideas on how you can pay it forward:

  • Participate in an Eagle board of review
  • Wear an Eagle Scout or NESA pin
  • Upgrade or Gift a NESA membership
  • Join the NESA Legacy Society
  • Ensure that your registration and YPT are current so you can help with a local Scout’s Eagle project
  • Become a merit badge counselor

We look forward to seeing what you and your fellow Eagle Scouts are all doing to pay it forward!
