Eagles Scouts “Be Prepared” to apply for NESA scholarships, starting December 1st. The scholarship application portal opens on December 1, 2022, and will remain open until January 31, 2023. For an Eagle Scout to be eligible, they must:
- Be a current member of the National Eagle Scout Association.
- Earned the rank of Eagle Scout by January 24, 2023
- Is one of the following:
- A current senior in high school
- A current full-time Junior or below in an undergraduate program
- Less than halfway through an associate degree or skilled trade program
College expenses add up quickly, and according to the Washington Post article, “The next inflation-driven worry: Rising college tuition,” costs are likely to follow inflation trends. In addition to those rising tuition expenses, NESA scholarships can help with other education-related expenditures like housing, textbooks, and other qualified expenses.
The National Eagle Scout Association is not the only organization that offers educational scholarships to Eagle Scouts. A quick Google search will reveal a variety of scholarships available to Eagles and Scouts in general. A Scout is Thrifty, so every dollar earned through scholarships potentially means loans and out-of-pocket expenses.
For those looking to get the upper hand on earning a scholarship, look no further than the On Scouting article with fellow Eagle Scout Spencer Long (Eagle Info) titled “Expert shares how to increase the chances of earning a scholarship by writing a good essay.”
Announcement of the 2023-24 school year scholarship winners will occur on June 10, 2023. Thanks to generous donations from Scouting alums, NESA awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to 65 Eagle Scouts for the 2022-23 school year. You too can help build the NESA scholarship fund allowing even more Eagles to pursue their higher education dreams. Choose how you’d like to give today at nesa.org.
