In collaboration with the BSA Alumni Committee, the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) is enhancing its training programs to better support Eagle Scouts and encourage greater involvement in local Scouting communities. A workshop series is now underway, open to anyone having an interest in Scouting, which will target areas such as recruiting volunteers, engaging alumni, and fostering deeper participation in Scouting, and more, all of which aim to empower Eagle Scouts to take on leadership roles and strengthen their relationships with their local units.
A critical component of the training series is working with Scouting alumni. Eagle Scouts are taught how, and encouraged, to reach out to former members, leveraging their networks to create mentorship opportunities and resources for current Scouts. By fostering connections with alumni, Scouting units can enhance their support systems, gain access to valuable skills, and build a legacy of leadership within the community.
Additionally, the workshops emphasize the importance of becoming more involved with scouting on a broader scale. Eagle Scouts are urged to participate in Council events, serve on committees, and advocate for Scouting initiatives. This engagement not only enriches their own experiences but also helps to sustain the program’s growth and relevance in today’s continually evolving society.
“Things are always changing” said Ross Arnold (1968), NESA’s Vice-President for Training, “and getting the most current information will best benefit Scouters, and in turn, Scouting’s youth.”
