Ross Arnold has been a member of Scouting and of the Greater LA Scouting Council for over 60 years. He earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1968. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 1967. Some of his recognitions include the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, the NESA Silver Wreath, the NESA Distinguished Service Award, the Council and Regional Alumnus of the Year, the Distinguished Commissioner Award, the Order of the Arrow (OA) Vigil Honor, the OA Founder’s Award, the council Silver Beaver, and the Region Silver Antelope Awards. Ross has recently been notified that he is receiving the OA Distinguished Service Award at the next National Order of the Arrow Conference in July.
Ross is currently the council chair for the Distinguished Conservation Award, the Alumni Committees, and is a 12-year veteran of the Board of Directors. He is also the Alumni Chair for the Council Service Team Three (CST 3) Committee, the CST 1, 3, and 8 Council Support Committee Coordinator, and is the newly appointed NESA Committee VP for Training. He is also a James E. West Fellow twice.
In Ross’s professional life, he has been an educator for 46 years. He was a classroom teacher, a school site, a district, and a county administrator. Since his retirement in 2012 from the Los Angeles County Office of Education, he has taught undergraduate and graduate classes at various universities including San Diego University, UCLA, and Cal State University Los Angeles. He teaches at California State University Long Beach as an adjunct professor for eight years teaching a class titled Career and Personal Exploration using the principles of Scouting. At the end of 2024, Mr. Arnold will be retiring from education.
Ross holds a bachelor’s degree in Forestry and a master’s degree in Agricultural Science from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. He also holds a master’s degree in Education Administration from California State University Los Angeles. He has earned six California Teaching Credentials.Ross and his wife Agi, a 32-year retired elementary teacher, have two sons who are both Eagle Scouts and one grandson. Gabe, their younger son is a high school English and History
